Notes from ‘Tonight’ documentary. Mon 16th Feb 2009. What’s in your mouth! Please note that the Dentist working on his patient during this programme and also the camera crew had to keep themselves protected from mercury vapours during their time in the treatment room. European commission say largest source of mercury is inhalation of mercury vapour damaging the brain. Banned abroad but not in Britain. ( Banned in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.) There is No safe level of mercury. Once in the mouth mercury vapour is released. Mercury analyser into the mouth measures 0-15 micrograms per cubic meter. Chew food, drink or brush teeth the mercury goes down with your saliva. Two million amalgam fillings put in last year alone Low-level mercury can take decades for the damage to show up. Scientific studies shows that the mercury is measurable at10 micrograms a day given off from fillings. (Chief executive of the BDA didn’t look at all comfortable answering some of the questions put to him). One of the most TOXIC substances in the world. Author Terry Pratchett asked if he could please have his amalgam fillings back so as he could make some cufflinks with it but he was told that it had gone into the TOXIC waste bin. It has been used as a preservative in children’s vaccines. USA info booklet that Dentists now give to their patients say’s that mercury can damage the kidneys and the brain but not the mercury in the fillings. UMM!!!! (Why not the mercury that’s in your fillings?) Tell your Dentist if you are pregnant as mercury can be released to the foetus. Affects children’s development. Charles Brown said that Parents should ask themselves do they really want to put MERCURY in their child’s mouth! Mercury is banned from medicine and so why not from amalgam fillings. Lets hope that further research will now take place in this country. Pam. 19th June 2008 Your dental fillings are toxic, the world’s major health regulator finally admits Amalgam fillings in our teeth are toxic and harmful to our health, America’s health regulator, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has finally admitted this week after claiming for years that they were safe. This unprecedented about-turn marks the sudden end of a lawsuit that had been mounted by advocacy groups, such as Moms Against Mercury, who are seeking to ban the use of mercury in amalgam fillings and children’s vaccinations. In an official statement, which has now been posted on the FDA website, the regulator admitted that mercury-containing dental fillings 'may have neuro-toxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetuses.' The statement puts the US in line with a handful of other countries that already ban the use of mercury fillings in pregnant women. The FDA is calling for further research, and may announce a complete ban on amalgam fillings. 'What Doctors Don't Tell You' has called for the ban of amalgam fillings since 1990 1st April 2008 ENERGY SAVING LIGHT BULBS It is good practice to minimise any unnecessary exposure to mercury, as well as risk of cuts from glass fragments. In the event of a breakage, the Departments advice is to vacate the room and ventilate it for at least 15 minutes. A vacuum cleaner should not be used. Glass fragments should be cleaned up using rubber gloves with care to avoid creating and inhaling airborne dust. All particles should be swept up and the area then wiped with a damp cloth. The glass fragments should be placed in a plastic bag along with the cloth and sealed. To avoid mercury accumulating in the waste stream, the bag should not be disposed of in a household bin. All local councils have an obligation to make arrangements for the disposal of household hazardous waste at a civic amenity site or household waste recycling centre. Alternatively, you can contact your local council direct for advice on disposal in your local area. (Info from the Department of Food and Environment. March 2008) ______________________________________________ 1st. April 2008 SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS Two peoples success stories. I myself suffered short term memory loss. It was a very frightening experience that I would not wish on anyone. I would forget all my friends names that I had known for over 20 years and would be frightened to call them by their names for fear of getting it wrong. I would forget to go on appointments even though I had it wrote down on my calendar and even left myself a note on the kitchen worktop but just to read it half hour before I was to be at my appointment I would still forget to go as my brain did not take in what I had read. I would always go into a room to get something but come out without it. I was frightened to drive too far away as I forgot how to get to friends houses that were just down the road and that I had drove to so many times before. On one occasion I stopped the car and just sat there crying as I was so completely lost and yet it was a journey just a few miles away from home that I had travelled to so many times before. I even forgot that I had my car with me once. I was on my way home from work and went into a cafe near my home to meet some friends. When I went to leave I could not find my car keys but they were staring me in the face all the time but my brain for some reason would not take in that they were there. Then instead of going to the car park to get into my car I walked home as it was just up the road. (Luckily I remembered where I lived) But the next day I could not remember where my car was and I needed it to get to work. I was so confused how to get dressed and mix colours etc together that I spent a whole weekend putting matching sets together with elastic bands round the coat hangers so as to make it easier for me to get dressed for work each day. In the end I had to give my job up and stop driving for a while as my short term memory was so bad and I had an awful fuzzy head all the time. (I did not have a computer at the time but if you have a fuzzy unclear head and use a computer then it is best that you do not spend too much time on it as it will not help your fuzzy head). I could not read a book as if I did then I would have to read each page 4 or 5 times and even then I could not take in what I had read. I could hear myself saying ' What was I saying?' in the middle of each word as I would forget what I was saying all the time. Memory of when I was a child was coming back to me more and more as if it had not been long ago and I was remembering things that I had completely forgotten about my childhood and yet things that had just happened or had just been said to me were forgotten straight away . Thank God I found out why this had happened to me and had a chance to put it right. My tooth fillings were leaking mercury from them and my brain aswell as my body was full of mercury. After having my tooth fillings safely removed and taking ' Humet- R ' to remove the Heavy Metal my memory came back within 5 months of detox and change of diet. (the change of diet is so important so as to let the mercury out of your system as if it can't get out then it will just move out of one organ and settle into another which could end up giving you more symptoms). First signs of my memory coming back was that I came out of my kitchen with what I had gone in there for and suddenly realised and was so excited as I just knew that it was the start of my memory returning to normal and I then kept practicing going into rooms for things to see if I could remember them. I will never forget how excited I was ! All the other symptoms that I had disappeared between one to 3 years later. I now take 'Humet' a couple of months a year just to get rid of any Heavy Metal that I may have picked up from food and the environment. Another person who benefited from taking 'Humet-R ' is Brian who was diagnosed after a brain scan with 'Cerebeller Atrophy' in 2000 and in 2005 a further scan showed that his condition was getting worse. After hearing about mercury poisoning and detoxing with 'Humet- R' you will be pleased to know that a scan taken in 2007 showed that his brain was now NORMAL for his age. Isn't that Fantastic News !!!!!! I do hope that anyone who has loss of memory will read this and see that there is light at the end of a very long tunnel for most of us. Make sure that you have a test first to see if this is the reason that you have memory loss ! Pam. Amalgam ban creeps closer From Dental Practice Jan. 2008 A Europe wide ban on the use of mercury in dentistry is moving closer after dental amalgam was outlawed in Norway and Sweden on January 1st. While safe in the mouth, mercury is released into the environment post-mortem causing environmental and health concerns. The timing of the ban is crucial as the changeover to alternative filling materials will have a serious impact on practice costs due to be negotiated in April 2009. Dentists Split Over Amalgam Fillings: The Wealthy Dentist Survey Results Tues 3 July 2007 Half of dentists are still placing amalgam fillings, while the other half no longer do, according to a survey conducted by The Wealthy Dentist. Many dentists expressed concerns over the possible toxic consequences of mercury amalgam and prefer to place newer composite fillings. Other dentists pointed to the superior performance of amalgam fillings and raised questions over the safety and durability of composite materials. Tiburon, CA, May 07, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Dentists are deeply divided over the issue of mercury amalgam fillings. In a recent dental marketing survey conducted by TheWealthyDentist.com, 52% of dentists reported they are no longer using mercury amalgam. The other 48% are still placing amalgam fillings. Some dentists criticized amalgam for its possible toxicity and tendency to fracture teeth; other dentists defended amalgam's long history and superiority to more modern composite fillings. Dental workers file claims Several hundred dental assistants are expected to seek state compensation for poor health that's believed to be a result of years of working with mercury-infested amalgam. State officials, they claim, were aware of the potential for mercury poisoning, but failed to issue adequate warnings. Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported two years ago that many dental assistants who handled amalgam had become seriously ill. Many of the chidren also were sick, or had birth defects. No to mercury in vaccines Tuesday, March 28, 2006 By KATHIE DURBIN, Columbian staff writer For Mary Ann Newell, Monday brought a sweet reward. The tireless anti-mercury activist from Vancouver traveled to Olympia at the invitation of Gov. Chris Gregoire to witness the signing of a bill that will bar vaccines containing more than trace amounts of mercury for pregnant women and children younger than 3. On July 1, 2007, when the bill takes effect, Washington will join at least six other states that have similar laws on the books. Also attending Monday's bill-signing were Garry and Maria Lund of Vancouver and their 7-year-old son, Kyle. Garry Lund, a design engineer at Hewlett-Packard Co. in Vancouver, said his son developed a severe form of autism after receiving vaccines containing thimerosal, a preservative that contains about 50 percent organic mercury. Kyle underwent treatment to remove mercury from his system and now exhibits only mild symptoms of autism, Lund said. Though science hasn't established a conclusive link between thimerosal and autism, parents such as Lund are convinced it exists. He told Kyle's story to a Senate committee last year when he testified against injecting small children with mercury. "I just want to thank (Gregoire) for protecting our children," Lund said Monday. "That's what it comes down to. If we're going to do vaccinations, I want them to be safe." It's been 10 years since Newell went public with her own mercury horror story. In the mid- 1990s, she began experiencing mysterious and painful symptoms: Her teeth and tongue hurt, the right side of her face hurt, her taste was impaired and she had too much saliva. The dentists and medical specialists she visited refused to take her symptoms seriously. At last she found a dentist who helped her solve the mystery of her aching mouth: her gold crowns were coming into contact with the mercury in her fillings and producing a galvanic reaction that felt like an electrical current. "I felt like I was being electrocuted," she recalled. Tests of her hair, blood and urine confirmed mercury poisoning. She spent $7,700 having 11 of her mercury-laden amalgam fillings removed and replaced with a nonmercury composite. "The morning after the fillings were removed, my tongue didn't hurt, I could sleep on the side of my face and my excess saliva went away," she recalled. Newell later underwent chelation therapy to remove mercury from her body. Sometime during her ordeal, her sister gave her an article from Mothering Magazine entitled "A Mouth Full of Mercury." She began reading up on amalgam fillings, which contain 50 percent mercury. A growing number of consumers refuse to let dentists put amalgam fillings in their teeth because they fear mercury will leach into their bodies. The American Dental Association says amalgam fillings are safe. In 1998, while researching the health hazards of mercury, Newell learned that many of the vaccines given to small children contained the preservative thimerosal, which is half mercury. As she studied the issue further, she found out that the number of thimerosal- containing vaccines given to children had increased dramatically in the 1980s and 1990s. In the late 1990s, doctors and educators began recording a startling increase in the number of young children diagnosed with autism. Newell joined forces with the Mercury Awareness Team, led by Ann Clifton of Olympia and Christy Diemond of Woodinville, which was lobbying for a bill to get mercury out of childhood vaccines. She wrote letters to newspapers (37 to The Columbian alone since 1996), buttonholed lawmakers, even persuaded her Republican precinct caucus to support a resolution calling for an informed-consent law on mercury fillings. Newell and Clifton found Sen. Marilyn Rasmussen, D-Eatonville, who has an autistic grandson, and persuaded her to introduce a vaccine bill last year. But its road to passage proved rocky. The measure, opposed by some pharmaceutical companies and physicians' professional associations, was gutted in the Senate and died in the House in 2005. This year, Rasmussen revived the measure with its restored language. But the House, during a floor vote, amended it with wording that made it moot. At the last minute, that language and the final roadblock to its passage was cleared away. The bill passed the Senate 47-0 on the last day of the session. Its passage coincided with publication of a new peer-reviewed study of two government databases that showed the incidence of childhood autism declined significantly between 2002 and 2005. Vaccine manufacturers removed thimerosal from most childhood vaccines beginning in 1999 at the request of the Public Health Service and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Today, only some flu vaccines given to preschoolers and some combination vaccines contain significant amounts of thimerosal. Debate still swirls around the question of whether mercury in vaccines contributed to the increase in autism. But Newell says the crucial thing is to increase public awareness. "I never argue science," she said. "I argue right to know." Now 55 and retired from her job at Hewlett-Packard, she devotes most of her her time to her anti-mercury work, with power walks each morning to get her blood flowing. Not one to miss a chance to get her message out, she carries around a portable plastic file cabinet bedecked with posters that declare "'Mercury Free and Healthy" and "Beat Alzheimer's, Go Mercury-Free." She encourages people to go to dentists who don't use amalgam fillings. There are 23 mercury-free dentists in Vancouver now, she says. "I think legislators really do want to protect children from toxic things," she said. "They are parents and grandparents, too. Will they stand up to the big money? I hope so. They can just say no to mercury in vaccines, and they have to say no to mercury in dental fillings, too." Previously: The 2006 Legislature passed a bill that makes it illegal to administer vaccines containing more than trace amounts of mercury to pregnant women and children younger than 3. What's new: Gov. Chris Gregoire signed the bill into law Monday. What's next: The law takes effect July 1 March 2006 A Congressional bill currently before the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee would "prohibit after 2008 the introduction into interstate commerce of mercury intended for use in a dental filling," radically changing dental practice. Dr. Boyd E. Haley Will Present this at IAOMT's Fall Meeting September 2006 Dr. Boyd E. Haley is Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. Dentists are still payed by the amount of fillings that they put in our teeth but many Dentists believe that most fillings can be avoided by change of diet. Some Dentists have started to use Laser treatment known as photo-activated disinfection which is applied to the decaying tooth, and then activated by a laser for about 90 seconds. The tooth is then covered with a sealant which prevents further infection. Also they believe that there is no need for the cavity to be drilled out as much as before to hold the filling in place as the fillings can now be stuck in with high tech glue. Dentists who see their role as keeping their patients orally fit are less likely to drill and fill, especialy if their patients are equaly commited. Daily Mail Mon june 13th Scientists from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine say Fluoride in tap water in the U S and U K is altering the bone structure in boys as young as five and ten years old which could cause bone cancer between the ages of ten to nineteen. They have not worked out why there is not such a risk with girls yet. MAY 2005 NRK, Norwegian state owned TV Channel, reported that more then 10,000 dentist assistants were exposed to extremely high concentrations of Mercury fumes, while working with Amalgam during 60's, 70''s, 80's and even early 90's. Whole Norway was watching this report, and after the report, NRK news reported about the large number of phone calls from dentist assistants. The report was long overdue, cause Norwegian healthy ministry knew about dangerous effects of Mercury since 1981, when scientists from Bergen University warned health authorities about dangers of Copper -Amalgam, a form of dental Amalgam containing 70% mercury. Copper -Amalgam is softer then usual amalgam, and much more dangerous, cause it is leaking mercury much more. Unfortunately, Copper-Amalgam was ideal for use on milk teeth in kids. Copper was killing bacteria, and it was possible to place filling without that tooth had to be dry or clean. Norwegian authorities finally admitted that many dentist assistants were exposed to large concentration of mercury fumes. Short version taken from Daily Mail March 24th 2005.
